Another Morning CD Review - GEORGE FM
The new release from Matt Jorgensen and his long time band mates is his forth for Origin and to my ears his best. The band is made up of: Matt Jorgensen - drums with special guests: Seven of the cuts are originals from band members and three are covers of The Beatles' "Helter Skelter," Joe Henderson's "Power To The People," and Neil Young's "Ohio," It is instantly apparent that the band have worked together for best part of the last decade, they are a tight unit. The interaction is seamless and uncanny and they instinctively know when to hold back during solos. The jazz style is split roughly 50 /50 between straight jazz and fusion. Not that genres matter too much with this release, the music does the talking. "Sweat Pea" is possibly my favorite track (at the moment anyway); up-tempo fusion with some excellent driving solos, whilst "Power To The People" is a sublime piece of straight blowing. |
